After asking universities to drop colonial-era dress code for convocations, Governor Ram Naik has written to Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav asking him to drop the word “Secretariat or Sachivalaya” for his under construction office as such words are “indicative of the British rule”.

Naik wrote: “In a building where the CM’s office is situated, it would be more meaningful to call it “Mantralaya”. Words like Secretariat or Sachivalay are indicative of the British rule. Thus, in a democratic environment, a word like “Mantralaya” is more suitable.”

Official spokesperson of the Governor’s House informed that Naik has also spoken to the CM in this regard.
